Empasse is a solo project of Nick Johnston (late of Sora Shima, The Changing Same and Dynamo Go). In September 2020, he released an EP called Ultraviolet EP, and had the song Karelia (Stan Version) included on the In Thrust We Trust compilation. The Ultravioet EP release was described as the story of the town of Rotowaro, a former mining village that was entirely removed in the 1980s to make way for an opencast coal mine.
