Rik Bernards was a member of The Bronx (guitar, piano, vocals) in the early 1980s, was a founding member of Echoes in 1982, and was the central figure in Knightshade from the mid-1980s to mid-1990s. Since this time he has played on recordings for Tim Armstrong and plays in Cambridge based classic-rock band The Rattler. Since 1994 he has worked as a lecturer in the Media Arts Department at Wintec.
