"48May"

48May was formed in 2002 by Jon Austin (vocals, guitar), Captain Hook (guitar, vocals), Jarod Brown (drums, vocals) and Shannon Brown (bass, vocals). All were friends well before forming 48May. Hook and Jon went to Hamilton Boys' High School together, where Jon was head boy, and have been writing music together for years, while the Brown brothers were both well known on the New Zealand music circuit for their roles in bands such as Mama Said and Tadpole. Hook was singer in 90s band The Grinners.

48May achieved some fame and success within New Zealand, including a place on the New Zealand leg of the 2005 Big Day Out and Edgefest '05 tour, and four singles featuring in New Zealand's top 40 charts. They also had support slots with Alien Ant Farm and Steriogram, amongst others. They had four songs enter the New Zealand charts, including "Leather and Tattoos", which was pulled from the re-release of their album The Mad Love following a threat from American band Bowling for Soup due to its similarity to thier song Punk Rock 101.

In early 2007, drummer Jarod Brown left the band to persue a solo career, and was replaced briefly by Stan Bicknell from The New Caledonia. The band broke up not too long afterwards.
