Robbie Laven was a member of Auckland band Moses of the Munks in the mid-1960s, before moving to Hamilton to attend Waikato Univesity. In Hamilton he initially formed the 1953 Memorial Society Rock'N Roll Band in 1971 and later The Red Hot Peppers c. 1975.
