The Hamilton Light Infantry Band existed from 1879 until around 1895. In November 1879, the band played at the opening of Union Bridge, connecting Hamilton East and West.

In 1880, there was some controversy, where it was suggested that a performance was undertaken advertised as fundraising for instruments, but instead the 9 to 10 pounds collected was divided among members.
