Dr Mesmer's Private Army describe themselves as a multimedia performance ensemble, collectively creating new work with every performance. The band had their first performance was at Creative Waikato in August 2016. Other significant performances have included the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival, in January 2018, where they played with taonga puoro exponent Horomona Horo. The band have recorded most of their performances, releasing them on Bandcamp.
On March 29 2018, the band released their debut studio album Introductions to the Cosmos.
