Cygnet Committee were formed in January 1987 to introduce a new face to what they believed was "Hamilton's dying music scene". Early members wereSean Lynch (vocals), Adrian Scott (bass), Tony Mephisto (guitar, effects), Daniel Allen (drums) and Tara Watt (drums). Lynch and Scott remained in the band throughout, but other members included Dave Whitehead, Erik O'Kane and Tony Davys (guitar). They played the University of Waikato's orientation in 1988, and supported The Chills later that year at the Hillcrest. The band had a theatrical element to their performances. They appeared on the compilation Terror Couple. Davy's ran Highlights, the only "alternative" venue in the early 1990's.
