Rachael King is a musician and author. She was born in Hamilton in 1970, the daughter of historian (and ex-Waikato Times editor) Michael King, but left Hamilton as a baby. She has played bass for Battling Strings, the Cake Kitchen, 3Ds and Bressa Creeting Cake.

Better known as an author, her novel The Sound of Butterflies won the NZSA Hubert Church Best First Book Award for Fiction at 2007 Montana New Zealand Book Awards.
