I removed the part about "...shopping centre which houses The Clyde, an extremely dispiriting bar home to alcoholics and problem gamblers", mainly because most of that bar and associated shops would have been physically behing the Riv - a lot of the Riv area is bank.

Holy crap, there's some deep part of my subconscious that remembers and recognises that building (I lived on Clyde St/went to Ham East Primary in 1986/7). Bizarre. But when you say it had a Cook St entrance, you mean the building was that huge? Clyde St isn't that close to Cook St. Just checking. - dan.

I meant Clyde St, not Cook St entrance! It was big... but not that big. -thedugganaut
