Zoe Cook is a singer-songwriter who came to prominence through the Play it Strange National Secondary Schools Songwriting Competition and Rockquest while at Hillcrest High School. In 2005 Cook placed in the 31st to 50th place bracket of the national Play it Strange competition with her song Take Your Chance. She competed in the Waikato regional Rockquest competitons in 2006 and 2007, taking out the "Best Song Award" in 2007.

She played the 2007 Tempo event in Hamilton and joined Dynamo Go for their Affordable Pop Music EP Launch Party at Ward Lane in 2008. In August 2008 she left for Mexico, but had returned by September 2009. On return she competed in Band Experiments 2009. At this time she took on the moniker Zoe y las Flores de Calabazass, being influenced by the diverse range of music she heard in Mexico, by which time it had become described as an eclectic mix of folk, alt country pop with hints of Mariachi. She released an EP titled Here Comes Danger at the end of 2009. She is now based in Wellington.
