Advert for the Zaks, 1990

Zaks was an asbestos-riddled bar at Te Rapa that offered ridiculously cheap drinks to lure punters out of the CBD. A free bus was available to pick you up and drop you off at the door. To top it off there was "Wicked Wednesdays", where the local lasses would perform a "strip tease" and on most other nights there was a covers or original band playing.

The club catered to a more rock/metal clientelle. The bus could not always be counted on to take you home.

The venue briefly changed its name to Chips in 1987, but soon reverted back to Zaks. Alan Judd was the manager and owner from 1987-1992
