Whiz Kidz played in the 2000, 2001, and 2002 Battle of the Bands competitions, achieving third place in the third year. They also played Band Experiments 2001. The band played a mix of pop, ska, electronic, hip hop and rock. After one of their Battle of the Bands performances, the band was picked up by manager Grant Hislop, who got the band gigs supporting Goodshirt, Goldenhorse, Zed and Evermore. The band had two promotional releases on Kiwi Hit Discs. By 2006 the band had changed their name to News of the World. Reti Hedley went on to Knights of the Dub Table.
