The Studio was a venue at 474 Anglesea St that lasted for a few months around 1979, in a building previously used as a pancake parlour next to Courtenays nightclub and restaurant. Playing exclusively punk and new wave, Auckland bands came to Hamilton to play there over a number of weekends, while a resident DJ played new records. The venue was decorated with a lot of black paint and black plastic, and utilised harsh lighting. Hamilton bands that played there included The Rich Kids, Turbine and Suss-Spex and the three bands played a triple billing on the opening night. Gary Havoc and the Hurricanes played there on 14 and 15 September 1979. The venue had a capacity of 150.
