Gareth Schott is the main songwriter and guitarist in Hamilton-based recording band sink \ sink and served as songwriter and guitarist for Ancient Tapes active between 2014-15.

sink \ sink released their debut EP Center Folds (via childrenplay records, UK) in July 2011. Their debut album The Darkest Dark Goes was released by Feedback Loop Label (Portugal) in 2012. The follow up, 'a lone cloudburst' was released by Already Dead Records in 2013. The second album was produced, mixed and mastered by Sean Erin Lynch of Conway.

sink \ sink emerged from Hamilton band Laughter in the Mainsail, its first line up comprised of Jamie Dryden (vocals) and Alan Deare (bass), Gareth Schott on guitar and Greg Thomas on drums. They disbanded in November 2010, with Dryden and Deare forming Blood Pops in 2011. Schott began recording under the name sink \ sink.

In 2013 Schott and Dryden released a spoken-word EP as Cautionary Tales for Children[1] on Rob Shirlow's Gravel Streak Records.

Prior to sink \ sink, Schott played guitar live with Auckland-based singer songwriter Charlotte Johansen, together with Jon Postlethwaite and Mark McGeady of Hamilton band The Postlethwaites.

Schott put sink \ sink on indefinite hiatus when Ancient Tapes began in March 2014. The band released an EP in Feb 2015 (Hummingbird EP)[2]. The band disbanded in May 2015 when singer Sam Brockelsby relocated to Germany. During their time they played gigs with Hamilton bands, Conway, The Goth and the Pixie, The Hollow Grinders and the New Millennium Beatnicks, in addition to Auckland’s Invisible Threads, Carb on Carb, I.E. Crazy and Palmerston North’s Man In Rug.

Post-Ancient Tapes, Schott has played live for birds of passage and Conway.
