Gareth Schott is currently the main songwriter and guitarist in Hamilton-based band sink \ sink and guitarist for Ancient Tapes. The band released their debut EP Center Folds (via childrenplay records, UK) in July 2011. Their debut album The Darkest Dark Goes will be released by Feedback Loop Label (Portugal) in 2012.

sink \ sink emerged from Hamilton band Laughter in the Mainsail, whose first line up comprised of Jamie Dryden (vocals) and Alan Deare (bass), Gareth Schott on guitar and Greg Thomas on drums. They disbanded in November 2010, with Dryden and Deare forming Blood Pops in 2011, and Schott retaining the name sink \ sink. sink \ sink now comprises of Schott with Kim Schulke (vocals) and Callum Plews (programming and production).

Schott has collaborated with Alicia Merz of birds of passage on several songs and contributed a song to the Christchurch fund raiser compilation album curated by birds of passage, Tomorrow's Conversations.

Prior to sink \ sink, Schott played guitar live with Auckland-based singer songwriter Charlotte Johansen, together with Jon Postlethwaite and Mark McGeady of Hamilton band The Postlethwaites. Schott, Jon Postlethwaite, Mark McGeady, together with Jessica Boyd, also comprised Adam Killer, a ska/punk band.
