Fridge Recordings evolved from Zygote Productions. It was so named because it was situated in the former position of the fridge in the cowshed of the farm situated where the University of Waikato is currently (i.e., in the building called The Cowshed since the inception of the university). It released The Fridge and Green Eggs and Hamilton compilations.
