Amy Racecar formed in Napier in 2001 and subsequently moved to Hamilton. The band has existed in various forms since this time, having comprised of a total of 20 members. They were winners of the Generator Battle of the Bands in 2004.

Amy Racecar released their debut album Conclusions in early 2007.
