Amy Racecar formed in Napier in 2001 by Matt Emery (vocals, keyboards), Mike Crook (guitar), Gary Venn (bass) and Rebecca Truimvist (drums). The band subsequently moved to Hamilton, where they underwent numerous lineup changes.
Amy Racecar released four EPs between 2003 and 2006, and one album Conclusions in early 2007 prior to moving to Melbourne.
