Amy Racecar formed in Napier in 2001 by [[Matt Emery]] (vocals, keyboards), [[Mike Crook]] (guitar), Gary Venn (bass) and Rebecca Truimvist (drums). The band subsequently moved to Hamilton, where they underwent numerous lineup changes.

Amy Racecar has existed in various formations since early 2002.  
  
Amy Racecar released four EPs between 2003 and 2006, and one album ''[[Conclusions]]'' in early 2007. In 2008 they moved to Melbourne, playing one gig supporting [[The Beautiful Burn]], after which they seemingly ceased playing.
