Aether was formed in April 2004 by two old high school friends, Nathan Bregmen (drums) and Ashwin Singh (bass), along with Hayden Tauroa (vocals) and Gareth Bradley (guitar; ex-Vetox).

Formed in April 2004 from two old high school friends, a stray vocalist and a guitarist crudely pinched from another band (Vetox), aether have fast assembled a palette of progressive songs mixing dark, clean runs interwoven with searing distortions and sonic excess, alongside the expected musical augmentation, pivot turns, multiple climaxes and denouements.

They have performed regularly in Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga bars, have played radio live-to-air sessions, and slots in larger local events such as the Vampyres' Ball, the Pagan Festival and the Nightbreed Festival. In September 2005 Aether released their first studio recording, Chapter 9: Swearing In as a radio-only single, and released an EP titled Falling Tree in 2006 before breaking up. The band had their final gig at Ward Lane on 10 March 2007.

In September 2005, the public at large was exposed to their first studio recording, Chapter 9: Swearing In, showcasing some beautiful movements through monster riffs and contemplative periods.

As a sign off, the band has recorded a bunch of their tracks acoustically, which are being produced by R William Murphy.
+
In compliment to their dark, brooding and dynamic sound they sport an equally explosive live performance. Some say man always winds up destroying the things he loves; this lot continue that through to their guitars, drum skins, microphones and probably selves.

With the single out, and further epic studio recordings promised to follow, wider New Zealand will have a shot at consuming and elevating a rhythmically solid, aurally exciting and emotionally expressive new band.
