WakaChickaWaka was formed in Hamilton in 1996 by songwriter Matt Amoore. The name was derived from the sound a wahwah guitar produces when muted, and first used for a solo Anzac Day gig organised by Mike Miller (Tsunami Band). With additional band members, they recorded a nine track tape in 1996 (at the beat syndicte with Tobin Pescud in exchange for business cards), titled WakaChickaWaka. <br>
