Talk:Kitchener Street

notes to self: expand and section, with a list of significant Kitchener bands, e.g. Alla Zingaro and Runt; full list of Kitchenerstan players - Justine, Barry and Geoff are missing from the early days; what happens after 24 gets sold, 7a disintegrates, Sandra and also Thames st moves to the other side of Boundary Rd, Martin moves away and then returns, Sandra is replaced by John, Malcolm and later Mark move away and younguns take over (with resulting loss of the 'Kitchenerstan' vibe); anyone remember the OLD days of 21 to elaborate on that? --Petrajane 06:58, 12 April 2006 (BST)

I've been to a few parties on Kitchener. Upon seeing this article, i didn't think a single street would justify having an entire article to itself, but woah, I was proved wrong. How the hell do you remember all this Petra? You gossip queen you. just try and keep it organised and not too impenetrable :p --Danduran 08:56, 12 April 2006 (BST)

Nothing and noone in Kitchenerstan is impenetrable - that's the bloody problem! Maybe Mark T could contribute a history of 20K's sunporch? And yeah it's gonna take me a bit of time and a few nudges to Mark Servian (he's just moved back to the hood, next to St. Aidan's) for reminders while i get it all braindumped and organised. you know i've been here since Easter 2001 and still managed to move up the flats in ascending order!--Petrajane 10:23, 12 April 2006 (BST)

question: is there a Places-Stub thingee? Can someone who knows how make one? I suppose this isn't really a venue per se.

I think this is skirting the margins of what should go in here; it's interesting that a number of musicians have lived in the street, but should we be able to read about their private lives i.e who lived with who etc? - geoff

Yes, absolutely we should. It's very important to know who got chlamydia from whom. - Roz

Prevention is the best cure, is that it? - Geoff

My opinion is that this page (Kitchener St) is pointless, as is the Mem' Drive page. I dont think it serves any purpose other than as an in-joke for a select few. And it is written so badly - if i was to stay it needs a rewrite, but as i think it is all pointess anyway im not going to put the effort into it! I would be happy to see it deleted - thedugganaut. (PS, Im really enjoying your contributions/alterations Geoff.... I have agreed with everything you have done - all very sensible and worthwhile)

Well, I don't think that the page itself is entirely pointless. It's nice to think that there are some geographical areas of significance. And some analysis of why they are significant is good. But do we really need a blow - by - blow (!) account of every single coming and going in these few flats? I would object strongly to anyone publishing my current or past address, and my current or past flatmates. So I am going to edit this page - OK? - Geoff

Definitely edit it! - (oh... you already have...). - thedugganaut.

"An example of Hamilton's pervasive forces of Psychic Geography, Kitchener Street has probably impacted upon every band in Hamilton music history in some way." - this still seems like absolute rubbish to me... I'm sure in reality it has "impacted" only a small proportion of Hamilton bands. Its a street where a few band members have lived at most. Even after Geoff's editing Im still not seeing any real reason for this page to exist (??). Dan: as resident "Bureaucrat", do you still stand behind your belief in this page (as above)? If you are happy then im happy to let it go. My vote would still be to delete the page though - thedugganaut

it's the same problem as 'adjectival enthusiasm' on the band pages. I think we have to give some credit to the readers - they can tell that that sentence is hyperbole (or at least vague enough to not really matter in its accuracy). Not many of us are experienced wikiers, and its nice to have a little local flavour around the place. I would vote to keep the page, since I think that it is important to point out the influences on Hamilton's more dero types, one of them being 'planning for character' by council, for eg. - Geoff

I have given it a hack to make it more relevant, removing the "hyperboble" at the start, and adding back a few names of musicians. I would say it is now probably relevant enough to warrant its inclusion... but i wouldnt want to see too many pages like this one. Which band pages do you still see the 'adjectival enthusiasm'? If it is over the top, try to tone it down - I havent seen anything as bad as what the first sentence of this one was in a while though... -thedugganaut

Do a search for the word 'legendary'...and check out aether for example. - Geoff

If the article is to the point, well written and provides evidence for its claims, I'm not averse to a bit of flavour - but within reason. If it's become injokey, then it needs to be edited, which seems to have been done. Remember, not everyone reading this is going to be privy to who these people are, let alone care who gave chlamydia to who.

Otherwise, it'll just evolve over time, which is the point of the wiki. It's what the users make it... --Danduran 01:01, 16 April 2007 (BST)
