Two areas around Lake Rotoroa (a.k.a. Hamilton Lake) have been used for bands.

A natural amphitheater with a permanent wooden stage is situated on the eastern side of Hamilton's Lake Rotoroa, beneath the somewhat iconic water tower. This venue has hosted a number of Shake the Lake and Carols by Candlelight events, and several open air film screenings. Access to the power and facilities is organised through the Hamilton City Council.

On the western side of the lake, Innes Common was home to entertainment surrounding the annual Balloons Over Waikato festival, and has been the site of the FreedomFest and 9 Bands For No Bucks events in the early 2000s, and a performance by Boney M in 1994. Innes Common was named after the 'Innes' family, who had owned the 'Waikato Brewery' on Bridge St, as well as the soda bottling factory 'C.L. Innes and Company' across the road, now known as The Meteor.
